    2017 - 2019

The Daiwa Scholarship programme is an initiative created to support early career professionals in fostering links between the UK and Japan. 6 British participants are selected annually who can demonstrate strong leadership potential in their field and have a clear business case for gaining experience in Japan. They are fully funded in relocating to Japan, learning Japanese and undertaking secondments in Japanese companies. I was selected as a participant to pursue my interest in the rapid transition of the energy sector following the shutting down of the Japanese nuclear fleet. I wished to gain international experience in innovation and different energy markets, and so opted to work for a spin out from TEPCO Ventures addressing the Japanese market and for a start-up targeting energy access in emerging markets. Through the programme I obtained N2 level Japanese.
