Smartlens is transforming traditional eye care into personalized, proactive disease management through technologies addressing unmet needs in ophthalmic care since the 1950s. Its portfolio includes: • a breakthrough, electronics-free contact lens for remote IOP monitoring - addressing a primary risk factor for glaucoma, leading cause of irreversible blindness • a smart drug delivery platform that optimizes treatment timing and patient compliance • an advanced AI-powered imaging platform serving as a smart slit lamp for remote disease management These innovations, protected by patents in over 40 countries and backed by prominent VC firms and Stanford University, have demonstrated strong clinical results with commercialization planned for 2025. Under his leadership, the Company has earned recognition from Nature Medicine, Fortune, and BBC, including the "Outstanding Innovation in Medical Technology and Life Sciences" award at the 2021 High-Tech Awards.

In particular, the board advocates and promotes our academic programs to local industries and institutes in the Bay Area and beyond. The board also provides input to the department, supporting its teaching, research, and outreach activities.
