2017
Syndicate Lead
2020
I launched my investment syndicate to invest in startups with truly new and innovative ideas.
Angel Investor
2017
Investing in bold ideas, innovation, visionary founders, impact, long-term value creation, and high growth startups. I have invested in 70+ startups including 2 IPOs and 6 unicorns. I have been fortunate to back numerous startups that are disrupting their space through innovation. Subsequent to my initial investment, these startups went on to close substantial financings from top institutional investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Google Ventures, Founders Fund, and Khosla Ventures, as well as strategic corporate investors such as Chevron Technology Ventures and Comcast Ventures.
2020 - 2025
Chief AI Officer
2021 - 2025
Spren (Elite HRV) is a leading digital health company offering advanced biometric tracking—including Heart Rate Variability (HRV)—AI-powered body composition analysis matching DEXA accuracy, and personalized AI wellness coaching developed in partnership with influential wellness experts. Backed by $13M in VC funding, Spren launched the Body Composition Scanner app (ranked #56 in Fitness & Health on App Store Top Charts), leveraging smartphone camera-based AI and computer vision to precisely measure body fat percentage and lean mass. As Chief Innovation Officer and Chief AI Officer, I lead AI innovation, technology strategy, and product development, creating novel AI solutions and strategic partnerships to accelerate user growth and enhance health outcomes.
VP of AI and R&D
2020 - 2021
Spren (Elite HRV) developed the #1 Heart Rate Variability (HRV) app, device, and analytics platform trusted by more than 1 million users in 70+ countries—including doctors, coaches, professional athletes, Olympians, and peak-performance seekers. With one of the world's largest HRV datasets, I led AI and R&D initiatives, identifying and implementing machine learning opportunities to unlock new commercial applications and significantly enhance users' health, wellbeing, athletic performance, and quality of life.
2015 - 2017
CTO & Co-Founder
2015 - 2017
Co-founded and led the development of an AI platform for automated inspection and maintenance of buildings and infrastructures, using drones, computer vision, and advanced mapping algorithms.
2008 - 2015
Lead R&D Engineer, Principal Investigator
2008 - 2015
TRX Systems, Inc. was a venture-backed startup (acquired by ACR Group) and a recognized innovator in personnel tracking and indoor mapping, developing advanced solutions for precise location indoors and in GPS-denied environments. The company earned awards including the Global Security Challenge (2009), Tibbetts Award (2012), Edison Award (2015), and the xTechSearch Grand Prize (2020), and secured strategic investment from Motorola Ventures. In 2023, TRX received a $400M U.S. Army contract to deliver advanced navigation systems in challenging environments. I lead development of the product for mapping and localization with $1.6M grant from NSF (served as the Principal Investigator) by using SLAM and sensor fusion of GPS and INU, WiFi, and RF measurements and applying Kalman, Particle filters, and machine learning. I also lead the development of a Visual Positioning System starting with a $600K contract with the US Department of Transportation for the development of an accessible navigation system using computer vision and deep learning models. 13 patents granted in mapping, localization, and sensor fusion (with 450+ citations).
Technology Transfer Committee Board Member
2011 - 2012
Helped start-ups founded by faculty or students with strategies to transfer scientific and technological research into viable products and businesses.
2003 - 2008
Research Engineer
2003 - 2008
Techno-Sciences, Inc. (acquired by McMurdo Group), recognized as Maryland High Tech Company of the Year (2010) and listed in Deloitte’s Fast 500 (2009-2011), is a global leader in satellite-aided search and rescue. TSi deployed life-saving systems in 30+ countries, developed one of the world's largest maritime surveillance networks across Indonesia and Malaysia, and secured over $130M in SBIR Phase I-III awards. Developed a sensor fusion (of radar, AIS, camera, and GPS measurements) and anomaly detection algorithm for a maritime remote sensing and surveillance system contracted by the US Navy for $100M+ to enhance detection, tracking, and monitoring of vessels passing through the 500-mile Strait of Malacca in Indonesia. Used Machine Learning to develop predictive and preventive maintenance solutions for a manufacturing/industrial application for US Mint to increase efficiency and reduce operation costs and downtime. Developed a prototype for a navigation unit based on time series analysis of sensor data and using optical flow tracking from video camera.
2001 - 2007
Doctoral Researcher
2001 - 2007
As a member of the "Smart Dust" project, I conducted research in a multi-disciplinary project to develop algorithms for estimation, classification, and localization in self-organizing wireless sensor networks I also taught a course in Numerical Techniques in Engineering.
2002 - 2002
Control Systems Engineer
2002 - 2002
I developed 1) a software for designing controllers for Dupont's "Control and Dynamic Systems" division to facilitate the design of industrial Model Predictive Controllers (MPC) 2) a software to pull real-time data from one of DuPont’s manufacturing lines and perform data analysis. DuPont is a fortune 100 company and the world's third largest chemical company.
